how is 4:15 expressed in military time?

Do you ever find yourself wondering how to convert standard time to military time? For those not in the know, military time (or 24-hour clock format) is a way of expressing the time which uses a numerical system instead of the conventional analog clock. Commonly used for military and medical purposes, this way of keeping track of hours can be tricky to understand if you don't have a background in mathematics or understanding of the base numbers system.

Let's take a second look at how 4:15 is expressed in military time: In standard time, 4:15 would be interpreted as 4 hours and 15 minutes past the hour before. Using the base numbers system showed above, however, we would refer to it as 1615 hours. The first two digits indicate the hour of the day (for example, 16 indicates four o'clock), while the last two digits signify minutes past that initially shown hour (15 minutes) using dozens (10) and ones (5).

You may also come across variations of military time which show 2130 for 9:30pm or 0030 for 12:30am. This simply means that each day starts at 0000 hours instead of midnight and progresses through both pm and am until 2300 hours which is 11pm in standard concept.
